Skill Development Training Initiatives by the Indian Government
The State Governments, Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) and the Central Government agencies have invested significant amounts of money to provide various Skill Development training for Youths, Teachers, Government Staff, Workers and Tribal people. The Government engages expert agencies to provide such training. As the public money is being spent, the government is required to engage the training service providers using an open competitive bidding process. As there is a significant demand, a number of skill development agencies are keen to participate in such training opportunities.

A sector wise analysis of skill development training undertaken by the government agencies in India is given in this section. The Rural Development, Social Welfare and Defense sectors each account for about 13.92% of all the skill development tenders (i.e.) 42% of the training provided followed by Education & Sports (11.39%), Industry (7.59%) and Banking & Finance (6.33%). Among the various states in India Maharashtra ranks at the top in providing Skill Development Training, amounting to about 1/5th of all the tenders.
